Type Locality and Naming

It is distinguished in 1968 by E.F. Romanenko and E.S. Chernykh.

Synonym: Ushbinskaya suite, Ушбинская свита

Lithology and Thickness

It is composed of light massive reef limestones of 1200 m thickness. They contain lenses of dark layered detrital limestones, sandstones, gravelites, and conglomerates.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It conformably overlies the Karadzhilgin Fm, which belongs to the Karachatyrsko-Kubergandinsky horizons.

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the Kommunar Fm.

Regional extent

It is widespread in the Karakulsky district, in the Kommunarsky and Zulumart ranges.

Fossils

Throughout the section of the Ushbin Fm, remains of fusulinids of the Murgab horizon Kahlerina sp., Verbeekina verbeeki (Gein.), Neoschwagerina sp., Pseudodoliolina cf. ozawai Yabe et Hanz. were found.
